Frequently asked questions
Simple answers to common questions about PDFNest.
Is PDFNest really free?
Yes. Every PDF and Word tool is free, with no paid tier, daily task limit, or subscription. File size and processing constraints depend on the tool and your device.
Do I need to create an account?
No. You can use every tool without signing up or providing an email address. Choose a tool, add your file, and download the result.
How do I choose the right tool?
Use Merge PDF to combine files, Split PDF to separate pages, and Compress PDF to reduce file size. To change formats, choose the converter named after your input and output formats, such as PDF to Word. The All PDF tools menu groups tools by task.
How do you make money if everything is free?
Through advertising placed outside the tool interface. There is no paid plan and no feature is locked behind a payment.
Are my files uploaded to your servers?
Most tools process files locally in your browser. Word to PDF is the exception: it uploads your document to our server for rendering so Word pagination can be preserved. The temporary file is deleted after conversion. Each tool shows where processing happens; our Privacy Policy explains the details.
What happens to my file after I close the tab?
For browser-based tools, closing the tab clears the app’s working memory. Files you downloaded remain on your device until you delete them. Word to PDF uses temporary server files that are removed after conversion.
Will my output have a watermark?
PDFNest does not add a trial stamp or promotional watermark. Existing watermarks in your original document may remain. The Add Watermark tool only adds the watermark you choose.
Is there a limit on file size?
Browser-based tools have no fixed upload limit, but large files can exceed your device’s available memory. The server-based Word to PDF converter accepts files up to 40 MB. For large documents, try processing fewer files or pages at a time.
Which browsers does PDFNest support?
Use an up-to-date version of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge on desktop or mobile. Large documents and complex conversions work best on a device with more available memory.
Why is my conversion taking a long time?
Large files, image-heavy documents, and OCR need more processing time. Keep the tab open, close other demanding apps, and try a smaller document if the browser becomes unresponsive. Word to PDF also depends on your internet connection.
Can I use these tools offline?
Some browser-based tools may work offline after their required resources have loaded. Offline availability depends on what is cached on your device, so it is best to stay connected. Word to PDF requires an internet connection because it uses server conversion.
Why does my converted document look different?
PDFs store page appearance rather than editable document structure. Converting to Word, Excel, or PowerPoint can change spacing, fonts, and layout, especially for scans or complex tables. Review the result before sharing it; image-only scans may need OCR first.
